About Luisa Moncada

I am Luisa Moncada, a journalist turned social impact leader dedicated to advancing human rights, women’s empowerment, and refugee inclusion in Canada. As the Transitional Housing & Women’s Program Coordinator at FCJ Refugee Centre, I lead programs that provide transitional housing, holistic settlement support, and rights advocacy for refugee women and those with precarious status. My work blends strategic program management with empathetic frontline support, fostering empowerment and dignity for marginalized communities. Previously, I coordinated the Refugee Hub Program, helping refugees bypass the shelter system and secure permanent housing through a network of emergency shelters, hotels, and community partnerships. Across both roles, I apply expertise in project management, cultural competency, negotiation, and trauma-informed care — all grounded in ethical decision-making and a deep commitment to social justice. Before transitioning into social services, I built a 10-year career in journalism and cultural event management, creating and sharing stories that celebrate diversity, inclusion, and Latin heritage in Latin America and Canada. I remain passionate about storytelling as a tool for advocacy and social change. Core strengths: program development, stakeholder engagement, intercultural communication, research & analysis, and human rights advocacy. I am driven by the vision of a more inclusive, just, and caring society, and welcome opportunities to collaborate on projects that empower refugees, women, and diverse communities.
