About Lyndel Caffrey

I grew up in the soldier settler blocks of Woorinen in Northern Victoria. With one grandfather a First World War veteran and the other a born story teller, my interest in writing the stories and history of early twentieth century Australia was sparked at a very young age. I'm currently working on my Great War novel, The Gun Club, which has been supported by fellowships at Rosebank and Glenfern. I work as a mentor and assessor with Writers Victoria and Write-ability. Having caught the bug of oral history when recording and transcribing my grandparents' stories, I regularly transcribe for the Museum of Victoria, and have worked in this capacity on oral histories recorded following the 2009 Bushfires, on the HV McKay Sunshine Harvester project, The Kodak Collection and for Bunjilaka and the First People's exhibition. I live in Brunswick with my partner and we have three kids, four chooks, a very run down old weatherboard house and a Jack Russell terrier called Murphy.
