About Maarten Maes

I've 7 years experience in energy, climate change and evironmental related issues, from which 4 years in a managing role. While business was growing towards double digits, I managed to reduce energy use and CO2-emissions for 7 consecutive years. Until recently, I managed energy and emission matters for Brussels Airport Company, the Belgian national airport operator. In this role I lead the company to the European top in energy and climate change management. Successes include building an energy management system from the ground up, making Brussels Airport the first airport in the world to be awarded the ISO certificate, creating a long term energy vision and reaching the third level in 'Airport Carbon Accreditation', the airport industry carbon management standard. I also had the chance to work internationally on new procedures, best practices and upcoming environmental and aeronautical regulation. You can tell from miles away that I'm optimistic, transparant and integer. I strongly believe these factors are key in taking opportunities and delivering sustainable (environmental and financial) benefits, next to developing sound partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders. That way, I spend a lot of effort working cross-divisional and understanding the business & all actors involved. I have been told I'm a loyal, proactive and stress-resistant team player with an analytical mindset, taking an helicopter view, while keeping the focus.
