About Madeleine Gustavsson

I am a Senior Researcher at Ruralis - Institute for Regional and Rural Research. My research focus on topics related to blue economies (including 'traditional'- fisheries - and 'emerging' ocean industries such as development of offshore wind energy), coastal communities, gender issues as well as the environment, green transition and rural society. I am currently leading the Norwegian Research Council funded BluePlaces project (https://ruralis.no/en/projects/blueplaces/) as well as being the Gender and Diversity Coordinator on the Horizon Europe EmpowerUs project (https://empowerus-project.eu/). Prior to joining Ruralis I worked as a Research Fellow (Proleptic Lecturer) at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, University of Exeter Medical School, UK where I was the PI on the Economic and Social Research Council funded Women in Fisheries project I have been a Guest Researcher in Economic Geography, University of Zürich, a Visting Postdoctoral Fellow at Memorial University and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Teagasc. I have a PhD in Geography from the University of Liverpool and a MSc in Marine Biology from Stockholm University.
