About Maggie Barkovic

With over a decade in paintings conservation, I have a special affinity for modern and contemporary artworks—from Rothko to Warhol—transforming technical challenges into opportunities for storytelling. Conservation, to me, isn’t just about materials; it’s about preserving the stories that live in every brushstroke. I’m driven by innovation, constantly exploring new solutions for challenging materials like unprimed cotton duck and color field paintings. My goal is to make conservation accessible to all people within our community—ensuring that everyone, from institutions to individuals, has the opportunity to connect with and protect the art that shapes our world. At the crossroads of art, science, and culture, I seek collaboration that pushes the boundaries of conservation. Whether engaging with local artists on contemporary methods or deepening my expertise in 17th century Dutch art, I’m committed to making conservation both meaningful and impactful for all.
