About Mara Johnson

As a seasoned fundraising professional with over a decade of experience, I am passionate about connecting donors with missions that align with their values and aspirations. I began my career in college athletics but shifted to mission-driven work seven years ago, where I discovered the transformative power of philanthropy in building communities and fostering impact. My background as a college athlete has shaped my competitive drive and commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and shared success. These traits have been integral to my professional growth and my ability to lead initiatives that inspire giving and drive organizational progress.Throughout my career, I’ve successfully led a capital campaign, established major giving and planned giving programs, and grown a development department from a one-person operation into a thriving team. My leadership style emphasizes creating a culture of philanthropy, empowering individuals to recognize the good in the world, and demonstrating how we can all make a positive impact. As a proven leader, skilled presenter, and strong writer, I remain focused on keeping people at the center of my work. I am dedicated to developing as a leader and thought partner in the non-profit industry, continuously striving to elevate philanthropy and foster meaningful change.Beyond my professional role, I’m passionate about building community in my personal life. My husband, Drew, and I are raising our two young sons in Timnath, Colorado, and I hope to instill in them the values of giving back, creating welcoming spaces, and approaching even difficult conversations with open minds and open hearts. At work and at home, my goal is the same: to help shape a more vibrant, diverse, and compassionate community.
