Background
About Marcus Cattani
Preventing injuries and harm is a wonderful career! With 30+ years experience in technical, managerial and leadership roles I partner with organisational stakeholders to enable the development of business performance by providing occupational hygiene, health and safety, enterprise risk, leadership advice and know-how. Reflecting on my experiences I think the most rewarding have been when individuals have told me I have saved them from harm, and when they tell me they pass on my advice to their family. Although I have career highlights such as a direct report to Executive, advised a Board, the Minister launching my work, managed multiple mine sites HSE with over 100 staff, and running my own business it is the protection of workers from harm which motivates me. As an educator I provide my students with practical learning materials, often based on my experiences, research and partnerships with industry. I am privileged to supervise some of the smartest HSE people around in their PhD's and Masters research projects, as well as a series of industry funded projects, write and teach a variety of Units, and lead the post graduate OHS program at ECU. I have a well developed understanding of business and the impact of OHS performance on business, from my work in Senior Management Teams, running multiple consultancy and research projects, and also as a business owner myself. I enjoy managing and leading teams across multiple sites, professionals, consultants and volunteers. Preventing injuries and harm is a science; there really are tried and tested processes to manage risk, which gives me great confidence in what I do. My research projects, books, training courses, university units, and tools take a scientific approach to managing risk and preventing injuries. I am passionate about my work which communicates the level of risk, and provides know-how to manage it to an acceptable level. Contact me if you would like to learn how to use my suite of Injury risk management tools, be part of a dynamic research team, or just discuss workplace injury prevention!
