About Marek Bekerman

I lead MediaTaur Ltd, an innovative media and alternative dispute resolution company specialising in intercultural mediation. Our activities span a wide brief of designing and delivering projects in the media sector to contribute to resolving conflicts and fostering social, economic and political development in post-conflict and transitional countries. We offer mediation and conflict resolution techniques as part of our services to break through entrenched and deeply polarised positions in families, social groups, political contexts and international conflicts. Acutely aware how the media has been increasingly weaponised and is dividing nations and society, we draw on decades of our professional media experience to strip away spin and propaganda which has poisoned human relations on many levels. Drawing on the old adage of turning poison into medicine, we use the media to empower people rather than to enslave them and to enable them to transcend their differences. We base our strategy on intercultural dialogue conducted through our media training and mediation projects and delivered by our multilingual and culturally diverse specialists. It simple terms, it can be described as a cultural “translation” service which helps restore a human dimension in communication without the harmful mediation of social networks or algorithmically controlled messaging. With 30 years of experience in international media, public service broadcasting and overseas development, we have delivered complex projects producing measurable results reflected in concrete outputs against tightly defined budgets. I have led and managed diverse teams in many post-Soviet countries, as well as in the UK, working on assignments in public service broadcasting, journalism education, media skills training, and media reforms. I am an experienced public speaker and moderator, I facilitate events in English, Russian and Polish and am a certified mediator. We also specialise in planning and organising public events, delivering strategy papers and designing media and civil society projects. Our expertise goes beyond the FSU countries and covers the Middle East and North Africa.
