About Mark Duffy

I was raised in a farming environment where working hard was not a choice but a way of life. I am proud to say I have continued this in every facet my life The construction industry has always interested me and I have worked on sites as a joiner from 15 years of age (OMAC). This aided my development in construction technologies and how site work varies to an office. When I started university ( Bsc Hons in Architectural Technology), my construction background was vital to understand the terminology and how I could interpret 2d designs on a page to how it could be built. Site experience helped me get a better understanding of the "build-ability" of designs and how the design was interpreted Having worked in both project management and architectural roles, I have learnt that asking the "right" questions to the main stakeholders at the start of a project is key to a projects success. I have strategically shaped my career to date. On my placement year and during my final year of university I worked with PDM architect's under one of the most unique and knowledgeable Project managers, James McAfee. My work with PDM helped me understand the important relationship the Architect and Project manager plays in the construction process. I proceeded to work for Inspire Architectural Design, directly under a wonderfully gifted architectural Technologist and director (Damien Ferguson) who has a great eye for detail and inspiring architectural design's. I moved to Perth, Australia and worked with a waste water and water treatment specialist as a drafter and eventually work my way up to become the construction manager. I also worked as a Revit structural drafter in a large structural engineering firm in Dublin. I am now back working as a architectural Technologist where I am using all the skills I have learned and developed in an Architectural practice. I am constantly going between the office and site and have a good repore with the contractors I work with on my various jobs.
