About Marku Lamp

With over 20 years of experience in sustainability in the forest and environmental sector, I just took up the position of Head of Research and Development cooperation at the University of Life Sciences. My main task at the University is to promote the research and development activities of the Institute of Forestry and Engineering as a competence center for sustainable forestry and wood processing, knowledge transfer and cooperation with companies. The aim of the Institute of Forestry and Engineering of the Estonian University of Life Sciences in the new year is to strengthen the institute's business cooperation and knowledge transfer in all research directions of the institute, paying special attention to the valorization of wood and other resources and the field of engineering. Previously I held a position of the Deputy Secretary General at the Estonian Ministry of the Environment, where I led the development and implementation of sustainable development policies and strategies. I have a strong background in forestry, having previously headed the Forestry Department at the same ministry for seven years, where I oversaw the management and conservation of Estonia's forests and woodlands. I have extensive skills in sustainable development, policy, environmental awareness, and stakeholder engagement, and I am passionate about advancing Estonia's green transition and climate action. As a Deputy Secretary General, I worked with a diverse and dedicated team of experts, partners, and policymakers to ensure that our environmental policies are aligned with the national and international goals and commitments, and that they reflect the needs and interests of our communities and ecosystems. I am always eager to learn from and collaborate with others who share my vision of a more sustainable and resilient future for Estonia and the world.
