About Matt Burns

I’m a global industry analyst covering the world of work. My areas of focus include HR strategy, technology and analytics, alongside workplace demographics, trends and practices. Leveraging prior experience as an HR executive, strategy consultant and tech founder, I help organizations adapt, transform and otherwise realize continuous improvement. My track record speaks for itself; I led a talented global team that won the coveted “Most Innovative Use of HR Technology” in 2017 and the "Canadian HR Team of the Year" award in 2018. Additionally, I help select vendors and consulting firms optimize their offerings for the market. I'm also a keynote speaker, podcaster, and frequent writer on topics including the economy, work, technology, analytics and HR. As the host of the "Thinking Inside the Box" podcast, I discuss the innovative ways organizations, and their leaders, overcome complex issues at work. Featuring guests from all walks of life, these discussions have earned us a global following of over sharing a pragmatic, evidence-based approach, and a compelling vision for the future through a love of storytelling. I believe in the potential of immersive technologies. As one of the founding organizers of the "Global HR Summit"- the world's first enterprise conference presented in virtual reality, I helped bring together a 3-day event featuring 60 global speakers - in VR headsets - to an audience of over 800. I believe that immersive technologies enable digital transformation, bring us closer together, and make work more human. It’s why I'm currently consulting with organizations to help them bridge the gap between concept and application. I’m grateful for the opportunities that my professional journey has afforded me, including the chance to speak and attend events around the world, including in New York, São Paulo, Copenhagen, Toronto and London. My mission to accelerate impact efforts is deeply rooted in my support for mental health advocacy and women entrepreneurs.
