About Matthew MacDermid
I work within the Scottish Government’s offshore renewables supply team, working with stakeholders to enhance and promote offshore wind projects within Scotland. In addition, I am a qualified primary teacher having completed my studies at The University of Glasgow. During my career (2015-2022) I worked largely in upper school with the majority of my career to date based in one of Scotland’s most deprived areas (SIMD1). This presented challenges working with children who had difficult upbringings and various learning and social support needs. I have taken great pride in my role as a class teacher to ensure their time in school gives them a safe and secure environment to thrive, not only academically, but also to grow and develop as individuals. I am a fully qualified, Category 1 football referee with the Scottish FA. I referee at Scottish Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two. Within this role I lead a team of officials into a high pressure games where the demand to manage situations and make accurate decisions is imperative to the success of the job.
