DDr Matthew Marcus (BBSc, PGDA, MCom (Taxation), PhD (Taxation), PhD (Finance), CA(SA)) is a qualified Chartered Accountant and tax specialist. With a background in tax consulting in South Africa and Canada, he joined the Large Business & International division of the South African Revenue Service in 2010 and currently works there as a Senior Specialist in Investigative Audit. He has experience in a wide range of tax audits and disputes (including involvement in litigation in the Tax Court, High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court). For most of his SARS career, he has focused on the investigation, audit, assessment, litigation and settlement of matters involving impermissible tax avoidance and non-criminal evasion. He has extensive experience in the interpretation and application of the relevant legislation, including related administrative provisions and processes. DDr Marcus also served as the South African delegate to the OECD Forum on Harmful Tax Practices on a number of occasions during 2014 to 2016.
