Background
About Max Kohl
I am currently a Software Engineer at Zynga Games. I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2016 studying Computer Science, Mathematics, and Geography. My hobbies include: video game development, systems design, and organic agriculture. Some of my self directed projects include:Impossicat and Bearbug - Three friends and I created an incredibly complex, cheeky jab at the 2d side scrolling action genre as a tribute to a popular webcomic. We added an event system, character controller, physics, and a combat scoring system to the Angel2d engine, and from that engine we designed and implemented three levels (a tutorial zone, a platforming sequence that is procedurally generated, and a final combat level), all with in-house art, animation, and audio assets.PlantPi - I designed, prototyped, and built a mini climate control system using an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and a custom hand soldered circuit board which allows data logging and environmental control over a small area. I/O devices included: multiple thermometers, a humidity sensor, a soil moisture sensor, a photosensor, and an array of thermostat controlled fans. I implemented a PID algorithm to control temperature, and I am designing a new C# control interface which will move the majority of processing away from hardware and allow custom profiles to be applied by a user. This Guy's Sky - I designed and implemented a basic procedural universe generator and camera controller which facilitated navigation through a basic solar system created exclusively through OpenGL and VTK graphics calls in C++.This Guy's Sky Part Deux - I augmented the basic functionality of the This Guy's Sky engine and ported it into Maya via a Python interface to create a more complex, detailed, and expandable procedural universe generator which can be either be ray-traced or output as an object file to create video game assets. These repositories are private - please message me to request access.
