About Megan Hallahan

Megan is a nonprofit leader and educator focused on international civil society, democracy, nonviolent movements, peacebuilding, leadership development, youth empowerment and community organizing. For the past two decades, Megan has led civil society and youth empowerment initiatives and organizations spanning Africa, the Middle East and the Global North. As Executive Director of the African Middle Eastern Leadership Project (AMEL), Megan oversees programs to train, connect and support young activists who are leading the way to rights and dignity for all. Previously, Megan directed the YaLa Young Leaders Academy (2012-2017), where she led the co-creation and co-facilitation of online courses that trained thousands of young people from Middle East and Africa on peacebuilding, citizen journalism and more. Prior to that, Megan served as Secretary General of the Ara Pacis Initiative (an international coalition of grassroots peacebuilders) and held various positions at The Glocal Forum (a European non-profit that facilitated decentralized cooperation for peace and development). Megan has given talks at Princeton, Stanford and New York University, among others, and regularly volunteers with various U.S. democracy and social justice groups.
