About Simran Bains

Simran Bains is a recent graduate of DePaul University, where she received her B.A. in Applied Diplomacy and Political Science. Simran has spent her academic career studying religious nationalism and illiberal regimes, the political blockages against the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity, and the influence of the social sciences on American politics. Simran has been involved in political advocacy since the age of 12, when she began organizing within the March For Our Lives Movement. Since then, Simran has continued her work as a youth advocate in organizations such as Dear Asian Youth, Collierville Community Justice, the Memphis Empower Coalition, and Mandate Democracy, utilizing her skills as a competent political strategist, accomplished writer, and engaging public speaker. Simran is interested in the intersections of human rights, politics, and international law, mirroring her plans to pursue a J.D. after graduation. Currently, alongside her studies, she works at three different organizations that align closely with her interests. At Project AMEL, Simran works as an intern under AMEL’s president, focusing on education reform and social cohesion at American universities, as well as promoting human rights and equity in the MEA region. At United Sikhs, Simran serves as an International Civil and Human Rights Advocacy (ICHRA) Fellow, supporting United Sikhs’ mission to advance Sikh rights through litigation and grassroots humanitarian relief. Most recently, Simran joined A New Policy as a Communications Assistant, where she aims to support ANP’s mission to reorient American foreign policy in the Middle East to align with American interests and humanitarian values.
