About Megan McCrea

I'm a seasoned writer and editor with a passion for travel and the arts. Over the past decade, I have worked in-house at Via and Sunset magazines, and I have freelanced for publications in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. As a writer, I have explored CellScopes, psychedelic soundscapes, and just about everything in between. As an editor, I have shaped pieces on saguaro cacti, the evolution of Oakland, and Yellowstone's best-kept secrets. My writing has appeared in a variety of print and digital outlets, including the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Condé Nast Traveler, Better Homes & Gardens, Sunset, Via, Mabuhay, Diablo, Sonoma, Healthline, Earthjustice, and Poetry Flash. I co-authored Other Places Publishing's guidebook to the Federated States of Micronesia & the Republic of Palau, and I edited OPP's guide to Tonga. I contributed to the Western Garden Book of Landscaping (Oxmoor House), and I consulted on The Little Pleasures of Paris (Chronicle Books). My specialties include: researching; interviewing subjects; writing clear, engaging copy; devising, pitching, and editing features and section stories; conceiving digital franchise concepts; meeting tight deadlines; and working with InDesign and InCopy, along with Kapost, Drupal, Blogger, and WordPress CMS. I'm fluent in English and French, and conversational in Palauan and Kosraean. For further information and clips, please visit
