About Mel Thompson

The path to becoming a martial arts school owner has been an interesting journey. This isn't a choice I would have made many years ago and yet now that I am here, it's a perfect fit for the experience I have as a result of so many things I'm passionate about. Psychology Degree I envisioned saving the world through exceptional counseling. As a martial arts school owner I have so many opportunities to: • inspire kids, teens and adults to develop self-confidence as they get healthier • help parents learn more successful ways to communicate with their children • chat with children and teens on more appropriate behaviors at home and at school Performing Arts/Creative Communication In a Spiritual Gifts class, my top gift identified was Creative Communication and I realized how much I love physical movement and being able to entertain and bring enjoyment to others. We hear over and over in life that the greatest fear most people have is public speaking. Give me a microphone, an audience and background music to set the mood and I'm a happy camper. Teaching taekwondo classes, running self-defense clinics and giving motivational speeches at our award ceremonies increases my energy level. Marketing/Advertising Writing my own newsletters, designing my own ads and flyers, creating website content, developing special events and internal/external marketing programs feeds my creative side. Saving the world How can I not feel good about helping kids, teens and adults get stronger and healthier while they are learning to defend themselves and in the process are becoming more self-confident about setting and achieving goals as well as learning that they can overcome challenges!
