Background
About Melissa Moore
Throughout my career, people have told me that I am good at leading people, tackling difficult problems and understanding the art and science of an organization. I’ve served as a Thought Leader and Trusted Advisor throughout my career for peers, colleagues, managers, executives and even for random airplane seatmates. So it is no wonder that I finally took the leap from senior leadership roles to focus on my true passions. I now spend my days as an executive coach and the occasional change, communications and leadership facilitator for small groups. A few keys to me: • Created the role of Chief People Officer for a growing SaaS company and led them through several turbulent periods including an acquisition. Early lesson: a big part of my job was to remove obstacles so employees would create their own culture. People-focused metrics resulted in employee-nominated workplace awards, a more innovative culture and longer tenure. I was once told I was a rare blend of people and business skills at the executive level. • Created Learning & Engagement programs and team as part of the early growth for a SaaS company. I had never been a trainer nor created a training program for technical and soft skills. I did know that to drive behavior change, you must engage and motivate. Sometimes we must reframe the challenge to land in our wheelhouse. Big lesson. • “It’s more important how we say something than what we say” and "Communication is about what is heard, not what is said" frames 20+ years of working with the Process Communication Model. This personality typology suggests 6 distinct worldviews, communication preferences and more. Thinking about leadership through 6 lenses results in productive interactions vs just a monologue. My North Star. • Change is a constant; I’ve led through it and experienced it, as we all have. Recently, I managed my family through change as the caregiver for my parents, both with dementia. My training and application of the Change Cycle with its approach to the sequential and predictable stages of change based on human experience, provides tools to understand and manage change. It’s now an integral part of my coaching. • Consulting gigs in healthcare, telecom, logistics and tech companies in the US, Canada, Australia, the U.K, Singapore, Japan, Germany and Ireland brought new ideas, new ways of thinking and lots of airline and hotel miles. Once asked if I ever tired of living in hotels, I responded "They make my bed, clean my bathroom, bring me dinner.how do you get tired of that?" Perspective is key.
