About Melissa Warren

With over thirteen years of experience in public health, I am a Senior Specialist for the Influenza Program at APHL, where I provide programmatic support for influenza surveillance, training, and preparedness for public health laboratories at the federal, state, and local level. I have also served as a project manager for national influenza surveillance, international influenza laboratory mentorship program, and domestic influenza laboratory training. I have a Master of Public Health in Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases from The George Washington University. As part of my role, I have supported APHL's public health emergency response for Zika virus and COVID-19, working with partners such as CDC, ASTHO and CSTE. I have written several articles for APHL's publications and have co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles. I am skilled in project planning and management, technical writing, laboratory training and in-person event planning, and cooperative agreement management. I am passionate about empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health using quality data. I am interested in infectious disease surveillance, public health operations, laboratory systems, and data integration.
