About Michael B. Warren

I am currently a Senior Instructor in the Psychology Department at Western Washington University, where I teach undergraduate courses in cognition, human memory, scientific thinking and writing, and seminars in cognition, cognitive neuroscience, and mental health topics and interventions. My professional background is in the study and application of clinical neuropsychology. Clinical neuropsychology is a specialized field of study within psychology that aims to understand the relationship between thinking, feeling, acting, and engaging following brain changes. This field of study also aims to provide diagnostic clarity and treatment recommendations to better facilitate healthcare decisions. As a clinical neuropsychology resident, I provided neuropsychological evaluations to adults with brain injury and various neurological conditions, such as stroke, neurocognitive disorder, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, autoimmune deficiency, and seizure disorder. My research interests have always been in trauma and rehabilitation. I am also interested in the neuropsychological health and well-being of our pioneers heading to the Moon and Mars (and beyond) as we become interplanetary residents. My other academic, clinical, and research training and experiences include various employment, educational, and volunteer opportunities at Whatcom County Superior Court (Department Supervisor, Civil Protection Orders), Harborview Medical Center (Departments of Neurosurgery and Rehabilitation Medicine), Fairfax Behavioral Health (Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Care), and Brain Injury Alliance of Washington (Brain Injury Support Groups). Equally important are my life experiences as a combat veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps along with my lifelong mission to be the best father to my two remarkable young adults. We enjoy various indoor and outdoor time cooking, gardening, hiking, camping, and participating in the arts (e.g, listening to music, playing instruments, drawing/painting).
