About Michael Best

I am clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Psychological Clinical Science at the University of Toronto Scarborough and an Affiliate Scientist at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University and my predoctoral internship at the Aaron T. Beck Center for Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania. I am the Principal Investigator of the Therapeutic Interventions for Psychosis (TIP) Lab at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Our goal is to understand factors associated with distressing symptoms of psychosis and pathways through which these symptoms create difficulties in everyday life for people experiencing psychosis. A primary focus of our work is developing and evaluating treatments for psychosis to reduce the distress associated with symptoms and improve quality of life. To date I have received over $4 million in research grant funding. I am also director and founder of Best Psychological Services, a private psychology clinic providing mental health assessment and therapy. I actively train clinicians around the world in cognitive behavioural therapy and cognitive remediation.
