About Michael Bluhm

When I was six years old I wanted to be an astronaut. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but somewhere in those early teen years I got distracted! You don’t meet many people in higher education administration that have aspired to be here from an early age; I’ve met a few, but they’re rare. I think it’s because you have to find yourself immersed in this work to realize that you might just be crazy enough to enjoy it. I also think we’re well into a new era that recognizes there’s a tremendously valuable and growing community of practice within which academic and administrative leadership transcend traditional boundaries, and this space will be increasingly attractive to future generations of innovative and creative professionals. I consider myself fortunate to have studied and worked within and across some fantastic institutions and organizations over the past two decades. Waterloo, UBC, the IB Organization, UofA, KPU, and now TRU. Having discovered that I’m just crazy enough to enjoy this stuff, I even completed a Master’s degree in Higher Education. One day, once Branson sorts out cheap and sustainable spaceflight, I'll revisit that childhood dream and we'll start up a university on the moon. Until then, I'm excited about the new adventure my family and I have embarked on here in Kamloops, BC.
