About Michael Hydorn
Dr. Hydorn is the author of several books in diverse fields including aquarium keeping, physical chemistry and organic chemistry. Dr. Hydorn and Douglas Salser (both retired from USPTO) have formed a partnership to provide Intellectual Property lectures and information. They are the creators of the "Take a SIP" presentations series - Seminars for Inventors on Patents, and Seminars on Intellectual Property. Dr. Hydorn was an Adjunct Professor at Germanna Community College (GCC) in Fredericksburg Virginia, instructing undergraduate and nursing students, both on-site and via distance learning, teaching each semester including summer terms. Dr. Hydorn was the Patent and Trademark Resource Centers Program’s former patent examiner in-residence. He was a part of the USPTO's information dissemination group; he assisted attorneys, entrepreneurs, inventors, and legal professionals in their dealings with USPTO. From 1996-2006 he was the manager of the Partnership Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries - the predecessor of USPTO's regional offices. And from 1996 to his retirement in May 2016, he has been one of the best-known, internationally-recognized, and most requested experts for providing the highest quality patent and intellectual property information and presentations. Dr. Hydorn holds a dual B.S. in Chemistry (fluorescense) and in Marine Biology (tidal ecosystems); an M.S. in Chemistry (asymmetric organic synthesis, biophysics, and molecular genetics); a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography (marine aquarium stabilities); a D.Div. in Applied Theology; a Ph.D. and a further D.Sc.Chem. in Medicinal Chemistry (antibiotics, chemodiagnostics, and chemotherapeutics). He was a Robert A. Welch Foundation Fellow at the University of Texas – San Antonio (chemodiagnostics); and he held a Summer Postdoctoral Internship with Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Ann Arbor (antibiotics).
