About Michael Ing

I am a software engineer working in the Bay Area. I earned both my Master's Degree (2019-2021) and Bachelor's Degree (2015-2019) from the University of Pittsburgh in Computer Engineering. I am particularly interested in human-centric software development, and have experience working in small teams and independently. I like to be challenged and have experience juggling projects of various applications, sizes and scopes. Over the last year and a half I have been working at a Bay Area startup called BestPracticer that specializes in career development, through a 1:1 coaching marketplace and a newly launched leveling and growth chat software. I have worked on back-end and front-end projects, extensive third-party integrations, product design, business-focused engineering, and everything in between. Before that from 2019 to 2021 I was a Graduate Research Fellow at the NSF Center for Space, High-Performance and Resilient Computing where I have been working on accelerating a distributed parallel graph algorithm using a new communication library. I parlayed this work into my Master's Thesis,"An Examination of a Symmetric Memory Model's Impact on Performance in a Distributed Graph Algorithm", and am in the process of publishing this work into a conference paper. In my spare time I play Ultimate Frisbee, and have a lot of leadership experience on teams including the San Francisco Revolver and the University of Pittsburgh's Men's Team, En Sabah Nur.
