About Michael Wenger
Born in Brooklyn in the heart of modernity, Michael Wenger was a loner who kept his own counsel. He was drawn to athletics, psychology, artistic [writing, painting and music] expression, and finally meditation unlimited by concepts. He has practiced Zen for 46 years, 38 of them at San Francisco Zen Center. At the age of 63 he took a big leap and started his own Zen Buddhist temple emphasizing zazen, brush painting and the relationship between creativity and the dharma. Courage, compassion and creativity are his touchstones. Wenger began studying at San Francisco Zen Center in 1972. An ordained Soto Zen priest in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, Michael received dharma transition from Sojun Mel Weitsman and was given the Buddhist name Zenen Dairyu or “Zen Deep Great Dragon”.
