About Michele Capurso

I started working as a primary school teacher in 1991. A few years later I was transferred to the Hospital School in the Children’s Oncology Ward in Perugia. In 1997 I spent three months working and training with the Child Life Specialists at the Connecticut Children's Medical Centre in Hartford (USA). Back to Italy, I started working on a training course for hospital teachers, educators, doctors and nurses involved in the care of children. The course is currently held by the Associazione Gioco e Studio in Ospedale and has been in place since the year having trained approximately 300 people so far. In 2001, I completed a 2 years training course on Person Centred Counselling using the Rogersian approach. Later that year I became a certified trainer for the Teacher Effectiveness Training course (T.E.T.) held by the Gordon Training International. In 2004 I developed 3 modules for a new national distance training course for hospital teachers with the CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche) and the Ministry of Education. During those years I published 5 books and several papers about the psychology of the sick child, the care of the hospitalized child, the educational activities in the hospital setting, and the use of the Information and communication technology with hospitalized children. On the same subjects I also did several presentations around tItaly, in Europe and even Australia. In I started working at the Department of Education of the University of Perugia as Practical Teachers' Training Coordinator. In January 2004 I started a new job as Researcher in Psychology of Education at the same University.I currently teach Educational and Developmental Psychology at the University of Perugia and I conduct researches on the above subjects in Italy and Europe.
