Background
About Michelle Marko
I currently work as a Primary Care Paramedic with Middlesex-London Paramedic Services. In April of 2022, I graduated from the Paramedic (PCP) program at Fanshawe College. Before entering Fanshawe’s paramedic program, I graduated from the University of Waterloo with a B.Sc. in Honours Biomedical Sciences and a Minor in Chemistry, where I worked as a T.A. for first year chemistry labs and as a Research Assistant in the department of Sexuality, Marriage, & Family studies at St. Jerome’s University. Throughout my time in Fanshawe’s paramedic program, I maintained good academic standing, with a 4.15 GPA and Dean’s Honour Roll status. In March of 2021, Dalhousie University published my critically appraised topic on Paramedic Preparedness for Delivering Death Notifications. During my final year, I worked as the principal investigator on a project investigating the attitudes of paramedic students towards their abilities to manage mental health or emotionally distressing calls. In my time as a Logistics Technician at Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, I became accustomed to the structure and organization of a paramedic service, as well as the processes for preparing service vehicles for paramedic crews, and any decontamination of vehicles or equipment. Additionally, my work as an Event Medic at Mosaic Medical allowed me to hone my patient assessment skills and become familiar with the nuances of managing medical emergencies and calls, particularly for large events, parks, and outdoor spaces. These two positions, along with my time as a Patient Transfer Attendant at New Canadian Medical Transfer, have strengthened my abilities in conversing both with paramedics/other health care providers and patients in distress. I love giving back to my community and have always been an avid volunteer, holding positions such as a Science Orientation leader at the University of Waterloo, a general volunteer at Grand River Hospital, a child-minding volunteer at Monica Place, and a meal server at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration. In my free time, I enjoy bouldering, making origami, and eating good food with good company.
