Experienced communications leader with a strong background in local government, specialising in both internal and external communications. Skilled in media relations, crisis communications, reputational management, campaign and marketing, brand awareness, event management, and content creation across written and visual formats. A graduate of the University of Lincoln, I bring both strategic insight and hands‑on expertise to every role.Currently serving as Head of Communications & Engagement at Northumberland County Council, I lead the Council’s strategic approach to communications and engagement, working closely with the Chief Executive and Assistant Chief Executive. My responsibilities include developing and delivering the Council’s communications and engagement strategy, advising elected Members and senior Officers, and building positive relationships with media and stakeholders to promote Northumberland as a “Land of Great Opportunities.” I ensure the workforce is well‑informed and engaged, fostering peer‑to‑peer communication and alignment with corporate priorities. I also lead a high‑performing team, managing risk and change, and creating a positive working environment built on dignity and respect.Previously, I was the Communications Lead for Internal Communications at Northumberland County Council, directing the internal communications strategy to ensure effective workforce engagement. I provided professional advice to corporate directors, heads of service, and elected Members, while leading a team of internal communicators to deliver outcome‑focused strategies.Earlier in my career, I served as Media Communications Officer, managing the Council’s relationship with local, regional, and national media. I acted as lead officer for communications during emergency and statutory situations such as elections, ensuring that messaging remained timely, accurate, and helpful while protecting the Council’s reputation. I developed and implemented media strategies, provided training to officers and Members, and promoted proactive reputation management.Throughout my career, I have demonstrated expertise in leadership, stakeholder engagement, social media management, campaign delivery, and brand awareness. I am passionate about how communications and engagement can drive meaningful outcomes for residents, businesses, and partners, ensuring that the Council’s priorities and services are clearly understood and effectively delivered.
