About Michelle Schmeltzer

I have been working with children & their families for the past 6 years & over this time have gained knowledge of trauma, trauma related behaviours, family domestic violence, challenges in relation to drug and alcohol use, mental health, as well as the difficulties some families are facing to meet their tenancy responsibilities in relation to cleanliness and maintenance. Working in remote communities in North Queensland, has afforded me the opportunity to grow & develop through experiences by living within the community, working together & understanding the harsh realities that our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families are faced with. I am aware of the complexities that come from inter generational trauma and the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people who are in care. I am passionate about inclusion, about families and the belief that all children should feel safe, loved and wanted within their home. I possess a Bachelor Degree in Communication & Social Sciences as well as a Certificate in Early Childhood & Care. I have a sound knowledge of Microsoft office and Outlook. I am a fast learner, team player & look forward to learning new things, skills and gain new experiences.
