About Mick Mulhern

I am passionate about the built environment and the huge benefits great places can have on people’s lives. I believe the public sector can play a fundamentally important role in creating great places. I work in the Executive Team at South Dublin County Council as Director of Planning and Transport. South Dublin is one of the fastest growing County’s in Ireland with some great opportunities for growth and innovation. As part of this I am leading our regeneration work in Adamstown, Clonburris, City Edge and Tallaght where there is huge growth potential. Prior to this I spent 16 years in London and I worked for the Mayor of London for 12 years. I learned a huge amount about how an ambitious public sector can set a positive agenda for growth. I was interim CEO of the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) where I lead delivery of the UKs largest and most exciting mixed-use regeneration scheme for 25,500 new homes along with a mix of employment space for new jobs. I also worked in the Mayor’s regeneration team overseeing a £50m programme across the centers of Tottenham and Croydon, which included a range of capital and revenue projects to secure improvements across both centers. I spent 5 years in the Mayors planning team assessing some of the most complex and strategic planning applications across London including the Olympics 2012 planning application and I supported the preparation of the London Plan and various planning guides and planning frameworks. At the beginning on my career I worked for Haringey Councils planning and regeneration team where I prepared site briefs, delivered a range of town centre improvement projects, and secured public funding to build two new Council-led SME workspace buildings in the borough.
