About Mike Bell

Supporting & helping are roles I've long felt drawn to and I was often the person friends would turn to when they needed someone to listen. I have since established and built a career within the helping professions, initially within youth & community work and more latterly within Residential Childcare. I pride myself in the fact that I have been employed across most roles within the established organisational structure, including volunteer, front line practitioner, junior manager and more latterly senior manager. As my approach to management has developed, I have tried hard not to lose sight of what it feels like to be on the ‘front line’ and how decisions made at the top greatly impact upon employee’s day-to-day experience of work. To me a key aspect of leadership is whether you are worth following. I have worked hard to equip myself with the best knowledge and skills possible to give children, young people and families the highest levels of support possible. I have undertaken Undergraduate and several Post-Graduate training programmes, all undertaken in my own time and mostly at my own expense. I have extensive knowledge of International and National policy drivers and am familiar with research and evidence-based practice. At the current time, I’m interested in understanding how both structural and behavioural determinants of health intersect and impact upon the well-being of children, young people and families and the distress and suffering which ensues. I’m interested in emerging models of family inclusive, rights based, holistic whole family supports as promising models of practice which offer the hope of sustained and stable recovery.
