About Milena Bowman

I am the Executive Manager at EUROCONTROL’s Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC), responsible for the day to day management of systems, airspace, procedures, and occurrence management. Seasoned aviation professional with experience in operations, project management, planning and people management, international relations. I have been a member of the Just Culture Committee at EUROCONTROL since 2019. I hold a Master Degree of Economics from Sofia University of Economics and a Global Executive MBA of INSEAD, so I can read a balance sheet and an aeronautical map equally well. A believer of the benefits of data driven decisions, the power of diversity, networks and behavioral science in my quest to raise awareness about bias, I founded a Diversity and Inclusion Think-tank at MUAC. I am a member of the Steering Committee of INSEAD Women in Business Club. I have been an EC Ambassador for Diversity since 2020. Currently, I am a PhD candidate with Leiden University on the topic "Team diversity and safety in Air Traffic Management Europe" The Flight Safety Foundation awarded me the Gloria Heath Trophy for 2025. My husband and I are avid book readers and enjoy travelling with our two children, so far, visiting over 80 countries including an expedition to the majestic Antarctica.
