Background
About Miranda MacAuley
I have been working in the field of practice and research in applied behaviour analysis for over 25 years. I co-founded and developed the BICA program at MacEwan University in 2015 (the only course sequence in behaviour analysis in Alberta) with the first cohort finishing in Spring 2017. In March 2025, we acquired ministerial approval to turn the program into a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Behaviour Analysis. I am passionate about introducing undergraduate students to the science of behaviour analysis and supporting their initial journey into the vast world of specialized practice. I also opened a centre on campus in 2023, to give students options for volunteering and hands-on experience while they are in their studies. The B.A.S.E centre provides family services and field placements, and I also provide supervision for Master's level students accumulating supervised hrs towards certification by the BACB. I am dedicated to bringing research into practice and using contextually relevant goals and data-based decisions to meet individualized goals. I value my radical behaviourism perspective, but ultimately recognize the audience and available resources require different approaches at different times. I enjoy and value professional dialogue amongst different perspectives in multi-disciplinary teams; however, I encourage qualified supervision for the design, implementation and monitoring of ABA-based assessments and programs. I am a science-practitioner with a progressive behaviour-analytic perspective, working across a variety of organizations, settings, ages, and diagnoses. The start of my career was under supervision of 2 amazing BCBA-D’s for 12 years. Also trained and supervised in general psych services: conducting psycho-ed assessments and diagnostics; analyzing standardized assessments in cognitive, adaptive, behavioural, and emotional areas; and counselling skills. I was fortunate to be on the executive board until my departure. In addition, I was involved with the Ontario Autism IBI Initiative start up, helping to write the training manual/materials and assisting with the train-the-trainer model across the province. I am committed to helping individuals reach their full potential, make measurable progress in meaningful individualized goals, focus on current and long-term outcomes toward their quality of life and ultimately decrease the costs associated with ongoing services across the lifespan. I advocate for improved policy and funding models to recognize significant variables responsible for program effectiveness.
