About Muhammad Naseem

I am a Plant scientist, educator, and innovator driven by the fascinating harmony found in cellular and natural ecosystems with finetuned balance, a high level of coordination, and conservation in resource utilization. I aim to decipher the complex interplay between plant host and their interacting pathogens. I use various model plant systems such as Arabidopsis, Quinoa, Common Reed, and Mangroves to address questions about fundamental plant biology, applied crop science, and ecosystem functions. Besides investigating plant immune dynamics, I am deeply interested in studying the mechanisms of plant invasion. I investigate the genomic basis of the invasive behavior of Phragmites, which mainly colonize the wetlands and human-made landscapes in the UAE.#I am also fascinated by the biology of the small-molecule plant hormone cytokinin. I have been studying the ex-planta implications of cytokinins for oxidative stress in mammalian cellular systems and gut microbiomes, as well as potential cosmeceuticals with better value propositions.# Besides my active scientific career, I am intrigued by the power of innovative teaching practices in higher education that enhance students' motivation and learning comprehension. I am keenly interested in learning the pedagogy of teaching and supervision, and I have been implementing active learning, higher-order thinking, and backward design in my teaching practices.#Lastly, I have developed entrepreneurial skills, design thinking and innovation capabilities, which are important aspects of my active career. It gives me immense satisfaction converting my scientific ideas into tangible products. I am open to extending (and receiving) synergies in entrepreneurial efforts about food innovations, ecosystem services, and green cosmeceuticals.
