About Neal Hackler

I'm presently on a full-time limited term appointment at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba, teaching communications. I am an award-winning scholar and the recipient of competitive bursaries from national, provincial, and local funding organizations. My work has been published internationally in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes with Oxford University Press and Wiley-Blackwell. I have long experience teaching literature, composition, research skills, technical writing, and business communication to undergraduate students. My specific scholarly interests are in public writing and strategies of public persuasion in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. I love acquiring new skills and have won awards in mathematics and science. I have extensive knowledge of food, nutrition, and the culinary arts and long work experience in the service and entertainment industries. I have found success in the fine and performing arts. The completion of my PhD was one of the fastest in departmental memory. I love digital, material, and intellectual games of all sorts and have even designed and redesigned several gaming systems for simplicity and elegance of play. I am an avid athlete and outdoorsman, an active member of a community boxing club, getting into the ring on a regular basis, and a practitioner of yoga. I enjoy working with my hands as well as with my mind. I am now hunting for new opportunities, intriguing projects, and adventure in the academy, and beyond.
