About Niall Jackson

Certified FOI practitioner with 6 years of experience at local government level in Data Protection and Information Governance. Currently working at South Kesteven District Council as the Deputy Data Protection Officer and Information Governance Officer as part of a small yet efficient team. Since starting at SKDC in 2022 I have redefined how the Council approaches FOI and EIR with an emphasis on producing detailed public interest tests for exemptions, developing officer knowledge and proactive publication. In 2025 our team was nominated for FOI Team of the Year at the annual ECase awards. As deputy DPO I have developed the Councils RoPA, re-designed the Data Protection Impact Assessments to provide a better view, developed internal online data protection training for Councillors and Officers and worked on improving our data breach reporting methods. At my pervious authority I helped guide the Council through Covid, providing advice and assistance on data protection matters and assisting with the completion of DPIAs during the pandemic. I developed the Data Protection policy and wrote a suite of Privacy Notices for Council departments. I also helped improve the FOI turn around times and assisted with Democratic Services and Elections as part of my daily role. I am currently undertaking a level 4 apprenticeship in Data Protection and Information Governance with Act Now.
