About Nilay Kant

Hello. My name is Nilay Kant, and I completed my PhD at Michigan State University's Department of Mechanical Engineering. I began my academic journey at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi in 2011, earning my Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. During my doctoral studies, I focused on controlling underactuated systems using impulsive inputs. My research involved developing theoretical control designs and validating them through real-time experiments. Additionally, I had the privilege of being a visiting student researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where I contributed to the robotics team. I'm also grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to several peer-reviewed papers published in top journals and conferences. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University, where my research interests lie in generating stable periodic motion in underactuated systems. This work has applications in designing gait for legged robots and ensuring robust locomotion. Additionally, I am actively involved in developing assistive robotic technologies for workers with disabilities in the sewing industry. Beyond my academic achievements, I bring valuable industry experience. I've worked e developing control algorithms for the automotive sector and clean energy technologies.
