About Nimer Abusalim

Bilingual Linguist | Higher Education Leader | EdTech Advocate | Native Speaker of Arabic & English | PhD in Linguistics | Researcher | Academic Mentor As a bilingual and bicultural academic fluent in both Arabic and English, I bring a global perspective to the study, teaching, and application of linguistics. Raised between cultures and educated internationally, I completed my PhD in Linguistics at the University of Delaware and currently serve as a faculty member at the University of Jordan’s Department of English Language and Literature. My teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, covering formal semantics, syntax, phonology, discourse analysis, and sociolinguistics, as well as research methods and academic writing. I have supervised numerous MA and PhD theses in areas such as pragmatics, metaphor, code-switching, AI-assisted language learning, and sociolinguistic variation in Arabic contexts. My research interests are both theoretical and applied, with publications and conference presentations in the areas of impoliteness, metaphor, code-switching, language and technology, and educational linguistics. I’m passionate about integrating digital tools into pedagogy and previously led the Blended Learning Division at the University of Jordan, where I helped shape institutional strategy, policy, and faculty training in digital learning environments. I also serve on the editorial board of Dirasat: Human and Social Sciences (Scopus) and sit on the University’s Scientific Journals Accreditation Committee.
