About Oliver Penman

I have over 38 years experience working with Geographic Information Systems and associated Project Management being at the forefront of the introduction of GI in local government. I have built up an in depth knowledge of data management procedure, dissemination of this data to the public, management and external bodies including national Government, strategic agencies and the private sector. I have been involved at a high level in the investigation, design, development and implementation of several GIS and operational applications/systems to support the capture, management and use of over 900 city datasets which underpin the business needs of the Council. I have managed the data capture and maintenance of strategic city datasets which support Glasgow’s back office systems and service delivery including grounds maintenance, street lighting, housing stock transfer, list of public roads, transport planning, parking, waste management, street gazetteer and most recently the development of public facing and internal web mapping applications. I have been using ESRI products for over 35 years including ArcGIS Desktop, various extensions and now ArcGIS for Server and AGOL providing a degree of expertise to new users. I have a working knowledge of MapInfo and AutoCAD Map. I have extensive experience of developing and managing web mapping and associated applications I chair the Glasgow GIS User Group and sit on several national groups including Scottish RAUC(s) Gazetteer, Scottish ESRI Working Group, Scottish Routesmart Users Group, Scottish Digital Office Capability Group, Scottish Geospatial Cluster, UK AGI Local Government Special Interest Group and Glasgow University Geospatial Advisory Group Recently working as Data Lead for Clyde Metro Feasibility Study
