About Oliver Richards

I joined government to make a difference and to travel the world. I’ve been lucky enough to have had the chance to do both in spades! As a diplomat, I’ve worked across the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Leading trade teams in Asia and North Africa, I’ve built a track record for innovation, delivery and ambition. I’ve worked to secure large infrastructure projects backed by UK finance and supporting UK industry. I’ve worked to open new markets for business, to resolve barriers faced by UK companies, to shape new trade agreements. I’ve built expert, diverse teams to get things done. I also have a sharp foreign policy lens. I’ve held senior diplomatic positions, influenced policy at senior levels, and care deeply about many of the economic and social challenges we face today as a society. After 15 years “on the road” I’m delighted to be back in the UK again. The family is thriving. On the work front, I am hugely enjoying my current challenge of helping the UK to secure supply of critical minerals, shaping a new strategy for the new government, and working with international partners to make things happen.
