About Olivia Rope
Expert in human rights protection, particularly in the area of persons deprived of liberty, prohibition of torture and ill-treatment, and gender. I have extensive experience in legal anaylsis, research, agenda-setting, policy development and training on human rights in criminal justice at the United Nations level and with national reform. After receiving an LLM from the University of Amsterdam in International and European Law, I have worked with non-governmental organisations on human rights, both at EU and UN levels as well as nationally. Currently I am the Executive Director for Penal Reform International, an NGO that works to ensure rights-based, fair and effective criminal justice systems, where I have worked since 2012. Before I spent about 4 years with Amnesty International, in their New Zealand section and at the EU office in Brussels. I am Vice Chair of the NGO Alliance on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and a member of the International Drug Policy Consortium's Members Advisory Council.
