One day, a friend of mine called me late at night. “Or, I know this is a bit unusual, but I need your help.” He was facing cash flow issues while running his successful pawnshop in California. Despite his efforts to secure new customers and a significant business opportunity on the horizon, he couldn’t get the necessary financing. He approached the bank with all the required documents, fully legitimate, but was turned down. Feeling stuck, he reached out to me to seek advice on what he could do and to see if I could help him find solutions. As we discussed his situation, he explained that many pawn shop owners encounter similar challenges. It was clear to me that there was a gap in the market for financial solutions tailored to this industry. After talking about the possible solutions, we decided to investigate the matter further. We were astonished to discover a whole market failure within the industry—an underserved sector where very few actually receive bank financing. This realization led to the creation of P2M.AI.
