About Patrick Harris

I am a freelance proofreader, having recently completed training with the Publishing Training Centre. I am new to the industry, so am looking to build my portfolio, but am very keen and open to expanding my experience. I originally trained in performance and have been a professional actor and musician for over ten years. Apart from the more specific training and experience I have for this particular industry I have developed and learnt many transferable skills over the years, not least public speaking and confidence in front of others. I am used to working unsociable hours, solo, under pressure and to last minute briefs, while also being able to absorb information quickly and accurately. I was an assistant producer to small scale professional production where I learnt to be aware and attentive to the needs of others while being proactive myself. Aside from the world of performance, I have years of varied experience in customer facing roles across the West End, most notably at the Old Vic Theatre. Daily, we dealt with regular walk-in customers and high profile personnel, from actors to benefactors of the theatre. I am used to switching between lots of varying interactions and working through very difficult situations, of which we have had many over the years at the theatre. I am also a BECTU union rep, and managed to negotiate a significant pay rise for myself and my colleagues. On a more personal note, I have taught both music and acting, and am a playwright with several performances staged over the past few years.
