About Patrick J. McGrath

Dr. Patrick McGrath is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University He is a leading researcher on use of information technology to increase access to psychosocial health care and on pediatric pain. He spun out Strongest Families Institute from his research. It now has 100+ employees. His research, his mentorship and his health care leadership have been recognized by appointment to the Order of Canada and election to the Royal Society of Canada and the Academy of Health Sciences of Canada. He won a Governor General's Award for Innovation with Patricia Pottie of Strongest Families Institute. For 10 years, he was Vice President, Research and Innovation in the Health System in Nova Scotia. He started as VP at IWK, then IWK and Capital Health and then IWK and the Nova Scotia Health Authority. He helped develop BIOTIC, the Biomedical Translational Imaging Centre and Translating Research into Care Grants. He has published over 400 articles, book chapters, abstracts, comments and editorials, 14 books and 5 internationally translated and distributed patient manuals. These are available at Google Scholar & hl=en McGrath continues to practice clinical psychology in his clinic, has numerous CIHR grants in e-health and has begun a startup, 90Second Health Letters, that is being used and evaluated in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, parents of children with developmental disabilities, caregivers of those with acquired brain injury and in teaching firefighters to prevent cancer.
