As a Grounds and Nursery Specialist 4 at Edmonds Community College, I am responsible for the care and upkeep of the campus grounds. The position provides these functions while supporting the Edmonds Community College mission, values and goals and providing a positive environment for students, staff and other members of the campus community. I work with other grounds and landscaping staff, faculty, students, and administration, and the horticulture department in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all outdoor spaces. Outdoor spaces include lawns, gardens, green spaces, sidewalks, plazas, raised walkways as well as parking lots and access roads. Grounds maintenance activities continue year-round to ensure the campus is a safe, clean and aesthetically beautiful outdoor landscape. Responsibilities include snow and ice removal, pest control, some structure maintenance, gutter cleaning or clearing of debris, and planting around structures. This position also assists the recycling department and the hazardous waste programs to ensure that the campus is operating in an environmentally responsible way, minimizing waste products and practicing sustainability. The position is responsible for the Maintenace and beautification of approximately 55 acres on the main campus as well as off-campus buildings. The position leads, coaches and assists assigned personnel and classes in the development and maintenance of grounds, landscapes, athletic fields, and nurseries, and participates and may manage assigned projects in planning large gardening and grounds maintenance programs. Some of the skill sets I possess and use in the performance of my duties include: Repair and maintenance of Hand tools and equipment, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling.
