Background

About Patrick Oneill

I have specialized in messaging with Microsoft Exchange beginning in the the mid-1990's. I have architected and deployed various Exchange and Active Directory solutions including the migration to Exchange of other well known messaging platforms. Being a believer in the future possibilities of Exchange and Active Directory, I went to work for Microsoft to contributed to the advancement in their adoptions. Upon my return to Unisys, I have continued to advise, analyze, design, install, and implement complex integrated solutions for enterprise level customers. The end result has been to ensure that the best solution is provided to the customer. When Exchange 2007 was released, the architecture change was a major shift from previous versions of Exchange. I was fortunate enough to have been able to take an Exchange 2007 IT Fellowship training course in Redmond from Microsoft IT and how Exchange 2007 was deployed in the Microsoft infrastructure, including best practices of implementation. While attending the IT Fellowship course, I was introduced to the power of Linux. I began to research into the capabilities of Ubuntu Linux 8.04. A year later, while installing Ubuntu 9.10 Server in a QEMU KVM virtual machine, I discovered Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (UEC). I was dazzled of the possibilities of taking advantage of private clouds, especially UEC which is based on the same APIs as Amazon EC2. I assembled a presentation for my management on how easy and fast for system administrators to setup, deploy and manage a private cloud environment. By the middle of 2010, I was an active member of a Google Apps for Government deployment for GSA of more than users from Lotus Notes. By June 2013, I have participated in four successful Google Apps implementations and migrations from legacy mail systems including Lotus Notes, Oracle SunMail, and Novell GroupWise consisting of more than users.
