About Paul Barnes

Have worked in Fingal for 28 years, started in the Community Development Department and moved to Corporate Affairs Department where I was responsible in establishing the Events & Emergency Management Unit. I am now based in the Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Development Department with a small but effective team. I enjoy the challenge of organising events and seeing them come together. A sample of events that I have organised or been involved with are, the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival Olympic Torch Relay, Swords, Blanchardstown and Balbriggan Saint Patrick’s Parades, Event Controller for the Ireland V England Cricket International May 2015, Event Director for the Flavours of Fingal County Show visitors in 2019), Swords Summer Festival, Fingal Fleadh, The Fingal Festival of Fire series and many local village festivals and events. I am on the Executive Board and Event Director of the KBC Dublin Marathon and Race Series. Since my appointment the Marathon has grown in entries by 40%. In June 2018 I was proud to Volunteer as Operations Director with Special Olympics Ireland for the National Games. Our Events Unit manage our own events as well as negotiating with external organisations, developing ongoing interaction in order to have a vibrant and exciting events calendar within Fingal, making it a great place to live in, work in and visit. An example of this is the the growth of the concerts at Malahide from 2 in 2016 to 7 in 2019, this not only brings in revenue to Fingal but delivers an opportunity to business in Fingal. We are the first County to introduce a Safety Advisory Group aimed at assisting and advising to create safe and fun events in Fingal. We have a suite of Event Guidance documents available to download. This year we have announced a call for proposals for events where we offer some financial assistance
