Overseeing the Engineer Services for Lancaster City Council, leading and supporting team members so that an effective and efficient service is delivered to our communities. Managing the inspection and maintenance programmes for engineering assets, including bridges, lighting, cycle-routes, flood and coastal defences. Providing technical and managerial support across the organisation. Compiling business cases, securing funding. Administering tenders and managing resources deliver projects. Provide technical support to the refresh of planning policies including review of the SFRA, reviewing planning applications, commenting on Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) proposals. Undertake investigations to understand the source and mechanisms of flooding and produce reports that include recommendations for mitigation. Conversant with legislation relating to Asset Management, Highways, Health and Safety (including CDM), Flood Risk Management; including the Flood and Water Management Act, Land Drainage Act and Flood Risk Regulations in addition to other legislation and guidance relevant to both a local authority and highway authority. Having a background of delivering Civil Engineering projects that often required an innovative approach to provide appropriate solutions to problems within environmental and budgetary constraints has been very beneficial in the role I have now
