Background
About Paul Schmidt
I am currently a Decommissioning Specialist at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (formerly AECL) working in the Project Engineering Group with other highly skilled professionals managing major projects associated with the decommissioning, demolition and waste management of legacy nuclear facilities. This unique and challenging position has given me the opportunity to gain extensive hands on experience working in the highly regulated nuclear industry in Canada. Previously I spent 7.5 years in AECL's Design Engineering Group as a Senior Mechanical Design Technologist where I specialize in building mechanical systems on a nuclear facility. I am particularly strong with HVAC, process piping, and pressure piping. I have worked on new builds and decommissioning activities primarily with Nuclear Safety Related Systems. Before working at AECL I spent 17 year in the Engineering Departments of two private manufacturing companies, CML Northern Blower Inc (previously Chicago Blower Inc) and Loewen Windows. In those positions I gained a passion for facilitating continuous improvement initiatives in addition to my Engineering Design and Industrial Engineering duties. My extensive education and career progression has taken me through the evolution of Quality Management including Just In Time (JIT), Total Quality Management (TQM), Lean Manufacturing (5S), and Six Sigma Methodology. My problem solving skills have significantly helped my employer’s efficiencies by improving quality, reducing costs, and reducing cycle times. I was a contributor in an implementation team at Northern Blower and am trained as a lead auditor. My facilitator skills, integrity, and results driven work ethic are my strongest personal attributes that allow me to strive in a technically challenging work environment.
